De Ro's goal helps TFC to second straight over NY

Toronto FC picked up their second win over the New York Red Bulls in an 11-day span after a 2-0 victory on Wednesday night at BMO Field.

Pablo Vitti’s first MLS goal put the Reds ahead after 28 minutes, and Dwayne De Rosario’s second-half chip shot salted away TFC’s third consecutive win in all competitions, a streak that began with a 2-1 result over New York on June 13. The win elevates Toronto to second place in the Eastern Conference ahead of this weekend’s action.

De Rosario's hat-trick lifts TFC, earns him MVP honors

They said it couldn`t be done. It had been generally conceded that there was no chance that Toronto FC could win the Nutrilite Canadian Championship by defeating the Montreal Impact by four goals Thursday night.

But not only did TFC do it, they did it one better.

Chad Barrett nodded home a corner kick from Amado Guevara in the 82nd minute to put Toronto FC ahead 5-1 and Guevara scored the insurance goal eight minutes later to make the final score 6-1 at Stade Saputo and give the club its first trophy.

The feat was more remarkable because Toronto conceded the first goal of the match, on a penalty, but Dwayne De Rosario pulled the team back by scoring…

Dwayne sticking with TFC

If stepping away from international soccer helps Toronto FC achieve its goal of making the playoffs, Dwayne De Rosario is prepared to make the sacrifice.

“I told (Canada coach) Stephen Hart I was 60/40 on it,” De Rosario told Sportsnet.ca. “In the end it is always tough because you do not want to leave your position with the team, but right now my commitment is with Toronto FC.”

The ‘it’ is question is the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 12-team tournament runs from July 3 to July 26 – a timeline that overlaps three regular-season games for the Reds.

“I have decided to make full commitment to Toronto FC right now and I really want to focus on the season,” De Rosario said….

De Rosario gets his ‘STAR’ on the Walk of Fame

Scarborough born soccer great Dwayne De Rosario was honoured by his community on May 28th, 2009 when he unveiled his ‘star’ on the Scarborough Walk of Fame.

The Unveiling Ceremony took place at the Scarborough Town Centre and was followed by a gala dinner at the Delta Toronto East Hotel.

De Rosario was one of six individuals selected for their achievements in the field of sports, art & culture, education, science, health, and entertainment. “It is a time when we, as a community, come together to salute individuals whose stories inspire, motivate, and serve as great examples for our young people” says SWOF Chair , Bob Dallas.
