Bio

Dwayne De Rosario was born on May 15, 1978, in Ontario, Canada. Dwayne excelled in athletics during his youth, showing a passion for a number of different sports. He played basketball competitively for the Toronto Select and also participated in volleyball, baseball, badminton, and swimming while growing up. As Dwayne grew older he realized he had to make a choice about where to focus his athletic talents. In 1997, Dwayne decided to make soccer his career and became a professional soccer player at the age of 18. He signed with the Toronto Lynx of the A-League. After showing off his skills in Canada, Dwayne signed with FSV Zwickau of the German Second Division half way through his first season in Canada. He played two seasons with Zwickau before returning to Canada, this time suiting up for the Richmond Kickers. In 2000, he led the team with 15 goals and five assists for 35 points. He was named to the 2000 All-A-League second team.

Dwayne rode that momentum, and in 2001 signed with the San Jose Earthquakes under Coach Frank Yallop. De Rosario scored tallied goals and four assists in only 1,072 minutes for the Earthquakes in his first season. As the season progressed Dwayne worked his way into the rotation more and it paid big dividends for the Earthquakes. In the MLS Cup finals Dwayne came on as a sub and scored the golden goal to win the MLS Cup for his team. He was awarded the MLS Cup MVP after the match.

In 2002 Dwayne registered 4 goals and 8 assists. During the 2003 season, Dwayne missed most of the year with a torn ACL but managed to return late in the season to score four goals and three assists in only 11 matches. Upon his return, he helped lead the Earthquakes to their second MLS Cup championship.

After the 2005 season, the Earthquakes moved to Houston and were renamed the Dynamo. The 2006 season was very successful for Dwayne and the new look, Houston Dynamo. De Rosario and the Dynamo captured the 2006 MLS Cup title by beating the New England Revolution. After an extremely close match, the Dynamo won in a Shoot Out with Dwayne hitting his penalty kick.
In 2007, Dwayne and the Houston Dynamo repeated as champions, winning the 2007 MLS Cup, beating New England 2-1. Dwayne scored the game winning goal in the 74th minute. De Rosario was named MLS Cup MVP, the first player ever to win the award twice.

Over the past seven and a half seasons, Dwayne has scored 48 goals and 42 assists. He is one of the winning players in MLS history, winning a whopping four MLS cups in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2007. He has been the Canadian player of the year, three years running.

Dwayne’s skill and determination to become the greatest player in MLS history, pushes him to work harder and harder everyday. He looks forward to the challenge of trying to win the MLS Cup for the third straight season in 2008.
